Protein Kapital is a multinational manufacturer and supplier of Black Soldier Fly (“BSF”) eggs, and insect ingredients as animal feed, pet feed and plant feed.
From a modest beginning in 2016, when the company only experimented with wild caught native BSF as supplemental catfish feed in Lagos, Nigeria, its journey has been nothing short of remarkable. In 2018, in its quest to build competence, the company aligned with insect research collaborators in Guangzhou, China to enhance mating results in BSF, and by consequence, egg yield. Then in 2019, it carried out further experimental analysis to optimize local feed as high-quality breeding substrates in the French West African territory of Benin Republic. Armed with these results and trans-continent expertise, the company ran a successful pilot that catapulted into a full fledge commercial enterprise in Uganda in 2020.
Recently selected by Saudi Arabia’s prestigious KAUST Destination Deep Tech accelerator, Protein Kapital gained continental recognition and international presence. As such, the company launched in Saudi Arabia, as the first commercial insect breeding facility in the kingdom, where it is already at the forefront of innovations that support local insect farmers to catalyze their production.

We believe more in group victories than singular accolades.
Forging key partnerships is one of our core mantras in Protein Kapital. With OWMS, a Professor led, University spinoff organic waste management company, we initiated a one-year program to jointly develop a state-of-the-art insect breeding facility, the first of its kind in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. In Uganda, the company collaborated with UWEZO, one of the largest SACCO for the Uganda military for the distribution of its products to hard-to-reach areas in Uganda and the Congo.
